by roman patricians for its great position overlooking the bay of Naples.
Distroyed and preserved cause the eruption of 79 AD under a blanket of ash, lapilli
and mud. The site returned to us thanks to the first Bourbon excavations of the 18th
century.
The arcaeological site of Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii, but in addition to
the ruins, it offers the possibility to visit in a small museum, located near the ruins,
the exhibition “ SplendOri” “luxury in herculaneum ornaments”. That is a great
opportunity to admire the precious findings, personal and everyday items occurred
in the arcaeological area of Herculaneum.
